S.E. District 4-H Host Inaugural Fishing Tournament
Young anglers across the community are invited to grab their fishing poles and head to the water for an exciting Tackle Throwdown that is open to participants ages 5–18. The event promises a day filled with ecology exploration, friendly competition, and opportunities for youth to develop fishing skills while enjoying nature with friends and family. This year's event is scheduled for May 2, 2026 at Hines Park and Stables.
Fishing tournaments and derbies for youth are designed to introduce young people to the sport of fishing while promoting patience, responsibility, and an appreciation for the outdoors. Many events also include demonstrations on casting, baiting hooks, and safe fish handling to help beginners learn the basics of angling.
The tournament will be open to all youth ages 5–18 and will feature age divisions to ensure fair competition. Participants will compete for prizes such as largest fish, most fish caught, and special category awards. Youth fishing tournaments often award trophies and prizes to recognize the efforts of young anglers and encourage participation in outdoor recreation. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend and support their young anglers throughout the day.
Beyond the competition, the tournament aims to create a fun and welcoming environment where families can enjoy time outdoors together.
Events like youth fishing tournaments play an important role in connecting children with nature and introducing them to outdoor recreation. For many participants, these tournaments are their first opportunity to fish and learn about the sport in a supportive and educational setting.
