Extension and Sampson County Libraries Partner to Provide Digital Literacy Education

In an era where digital skills are increasingly essential for everyday life, Sampson County, North Carolina, is taking proactive steps to ensure that its residents are not left behind. Partnering with Sampson County libraries, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Sampson County Center has launched an initiative aimed at providing digital literacy education to all members of the community.

The initiative comes as a response to the growing digital divide, which disproportionately affects rural and underserved communities like those found in Sampson County. With access to technology becoming increasingly crucial for tasks ranging from applying for jobs to accessing healthcare services and educational resources, the inability to navigate digital platforms can significantly hinder individuals' opportunities and quality of life.

Recognizing this challenge, Extension has stepped up to the plate, offering a range of digital literacy programs and resources tailored to different age groups and skill levels. From basic computer skills workshops, such as setting up an email account or using a smartphone, the initiative aims to equip residents with the knowledge and confidence they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

One of the key strengths of the program lies in its accessibility. By partnering with local libraries, the initiative ensures that these valuable resources are readily available to all members of the community, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location. With four branches located throughout this large county, residents can easily access the support and guidance they need in their local community.

Moreover, the initiative also serves as a testament to the power of collaboration between government agencies. By working together, Sampson County libraries and N.C. Cooperative Extension are able to pool their resources, maximizing the impact of their efforts and ensuring that they reach as many residents as possible.  By investing in digital literacy education and leveraging the resources of local libraries, Sampson County is not only bridging the digital divide but also empowering its residents to thrive in the digital age.
