I can almost smell the Thanksgiving turkey being pulled from the oven and placed on a table full of yams, chicken pastry, and green bean casserole. Laughter fills the air as old stories are being told about gatherings from years past. I can’t wait to put up the Christmas tree and begin the countdown until Christmas day. The holidays – yes, are my most favorite time of the year.

Besides the food and family, there are other staples that go along with the holiday season. The Christmas Cactus in full bloom as the centerpiece for the table. The poinsettia’s, with their magnificent red foliage beside the fireplace, all remind me of great times past; the holidays wouldn’t be the same without them.

If Christmas Cactus, Poinsettias, or Amaryllis were part of your holiday tradition, why not keep the tradition alive with plants offered by the Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Sampson County? The EMGV’s will be taking pre-orders for pink and red Christmas Cactus, Amaryllis, and Poinsettias from now until November 26, 2019. Pick up will be December 5 and December 7 at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Sampson County Center. You can print the order form below or call 910-592-7161 and ask to speak with an Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer.
